Old timer told me my injector swap method was trash

I used to always just yank injectors out with a slide hammer on 6.7 Powerstrokes. Had a retired mechanic watch me at a shop in Denver and he said I was damaging the bores. Showed me to soak them in penetrating oil for 20 minutes and use a puller with a steady hand. Anyone else switch up their removal technique after someone called them out?

Wait, TWENTY minutes of soaking? That seems like Overkill to me. I've popped out dozens of injectors with just a couple quick sprays of WD-40 and a slide hammer and never had an issue. Were you really using that much penetrating oil on a Powerstroke before?

Man, I hear you on that. I used to think the same way, just a quick blast and yank em out. But I learned the hard way on a 6.0 that was so crusted in, the slide hammer just snapped the tool. That twenty minute soak saved me from having to pull the whole head, I tell you what. Not all trucks are created equal, especially if they've been sitting or have that rusty salt belt stuff. I'm just glad it worked out for the guy, because pulling injectors can turn into a nightmare real fast.
