PSA: saw a shop in Tulsa running waste oil straight into the drain out back
I was picking up a parts order at a place off 11th Street in Tulsa last Tuesday and walked around back to load up when I noticed a hose from their waste oil tank running right into a floor drain. No catch pan, nothing. EPA fine for that kind of thing starts around $10k a day per violation and I doubt the owner even knows his guy set it up that way. I said something to the counter guy and he just shrugged and said it's been like that for a while. If you run a shop or know someone who does, check where your waste oil is actually going, because the guy doing the dumping is not the one who eats the fine.
That counter guy shrugging says a lot, and it's rough because the owner is the one holding the bag when the inspector shows up. 11th Street is busy enough that somebody's gonna notice that hose eventually. Hope your post saves a few shop owners a very bad day.
