Rant: My uncle swore by a $12 fuel filter from the farm store, and it cost me a Saturday and a tow
My uncle has run tractors for 30 years and he swore the cheapo house brand filter from the farm store in Hastings worked just fine on his old 7.3. So I skipped the $40 one and dropped the $12 version in my truck before a 200 mile haul. 40 miles outside Kearney the thing started surging and losing power, then quit dead on the shoulder. The filter housing was full of crud the cheap element never caught, and the tow plus new filters ran me $280. Anybody got a filter brand they actually trust for a 7.3, or am I stuck paying dealer prices forever?
