Remember when injector cups were actually reusable?

Spent 45 minutes yesterday fighting a seized injector cup on a Series 60 that would have popped right out with a pry bar back in '04, and now I'm wondering who decided we needed to replace them every single time instead of just cleaning them up and running with what we had?

The real problem isn't the cups themselves it's the damn torque specs they started using around 2010. Went from hand tight plus a little persuasion to some weird inch-pound number that makes the aluminum threads gall up like crazy. Pulled three cups out of an old Detroit last month that were installed with the old method and they came out clean as a whistle. Those newer cups with the stupid o-ring grooves are the real issue, they collect carbon in a way the old flat bottom ones never did.

Bet those torque specs came from someone who never actually turned a wrench.

Hear that @milar46, you hit the nail on the head about those o-ring grooves. Honestly, if the old flat bottom cups worked fine for decades, why did they have to mess with the design in the first place? Ngl, I wonder if the engineering team even tested them in real world conditions before rolling it out.
