Remember when we used to rebuild injectors with just a vise and a torque wrench?

I was digging through my old toolbox last month and found my first pop tester from 1989 and it got me wondering when did we stop trusting our ears and start trusting computers for everything?

85% of the time a bad ground is what got me too on my early 2000s Ford, not the injector itself. That screwdriver trick works way better than people give it credit for, you just gotta know what you're listening for. The ear test never really went away, it just got buried under all that computer noise.

Hell yeah, right? Back when "diagnostic tool" meant holding a screwdriver against the injector line and seeing if it shocked the crap out of you. Now my truck has more computers than a NASA mission control and it still throws a fit over a bad ground. My old pop tester is way more honest than a scan tool, it either squeals or it doesn't. These new kids wouldn't last a day without their laptop telling them what a fuel knock sounds like.
