Saw the inside of a 7.3 Powerstroke after 15 years of neglect and it changed my mind about oil additives
I pulled the valve covers off a 1999 F-250 last week that had 280k miles and supposedly never got anything but the cheapest 15W-40. The sludge buildup was something else, thick and crusty all over the rockers. Then I did a similar job on a 2002 with similar miles but the owner used a certain additive every oil change. That engine was clean like it was rebuilt last year. I mean, is there actually a science behind those additives or is it just the luck of the maintenance schedule?

Nah man you just discovered the secret. It’s all vibes and snake oil... or exactly what you think it is.

Wait, is this actually a thing people get worked up about?
