Unpopular opinion: a truck stop waiter changed how I warm up a cold engine
Stopped at a diner off I-80 in Cheyenne last month and the waiter, an old guy who used to run a shop, heard my rig idling rough and asked if I let it warm up. I said yeah, about a minute, and he laughed and said that's how you crack a head gasket in winter. He told me to let it idle 5 to 10 minutes below freezing, and to watch the temp gauge, not the clock. I started doing that on my own truck and the rough idle went away. Curious what you all do when it's 10 degrees out and you got a cold start.
