Visiting the old Mack yard in Allentown made me realize we've gotten too reliant on scan tools for basic diagnostics.

Seeing a guy there fix a persistent low-power complaint on a '97 RD688S just by tracing a fuel line with his hands and finding a soft spot proved that sometimes the old-school feel is still the best tool you have.

Isn't it crazy how we've lost touch with the actual stuff we use? I mean, we just trust screens to tell us what's wrong, but they can't feel a soft hose or hear a weird click. Maybe it's just me but I see it everywhere, like people can't even read a map without their phone talking to them. We're getting worse at using our own senses because we always have a gadget to do it for us. That guy with the fuel line proves your hands and eyes are still the best tools for a lot of jobs.

My scanner would've just told me the fuel was feeling shy.
