My dad's old lawyer buddy in Edmonton gave me bad advice about a speeding ticket
Back in 2018 I got a 50-over ticket on the Anthony Henday. My dad's friend, a lawyer who retired in the 90s, told me to just plead guilty and ask for a reduction in person. I did that at the Edmonton Law Courts and the judge barely listened, still hit me with the full fine $368 and 4 demerits. A coworker later told me to get a traffic ticket specialist, they got his same charge dropped to 15 over. Anyone else had an old timer's legal advice backfire on them?

Heard a traffic cop say the same thing. @johnthompson nailed it, the system changed.

Oh totally, I had the exact same thing happen. Showed up with all my paperwork ready and they just pointed at a QR code and told me to pay online.

Old buddy of mine took his uncle's advice from the 80s about fighting a ticket in court and spent three hours waiting just to get told to pay up. Lawyers who retired before cell phones don't get how much the system changed with those point systems.
