My landlord tried to keep my whole damage deposit over a tiny carpet stain near Southgate

I moved out of a basement suite off 34th Ave back in February and the property manager claimed a 3 inch coffee mark meant I needed to replace the whole living room carpet which would cost my entire $1200 deposit. After three months of sending photos and quoting the Residential Tenancy Act section about normal wear and tear, I finally got $1100 back but only after filing a dispute through the landlord tenant board. Has anyone else had to fight this hard over deposits in Edmonton or did I just get a bad landlord?

Man that's brutal. I had almost the exact same fight with a landlord near downtown over some minor wear on the blinds.

Used to think landlords should get the full deposit no matter what for any damage. Then I had one try to charge me for normal scuffs on the walls after living there three years. Definitely changed my mind on how strict some of them can be.
