Paid $850 for a traffic lawyer and actually got my ticket tossed

Got hit with a red light camera ticket in Sherwood Park back in March. The photo clearly showed my plate but honestly I didn't remember running it. Figured lawyers were just a scam to bleed money out of people. My buddy kept pushing me to call someone and I finally caved. The lawyer found a procedural error with how the notice was mailed, got the whole thing thrown out at the hearing. Cost me $850 but that ticket was $405 plus demerits, so I'm ahead if I get one more ticket in the next two years. Has anyone else had a lawyer actually get them off on a technicality here in Edmonton?

Hold on, demerits don't really work like that in Alberta, it's about hitting threshold amounts.
