Shoutout to that cheap will kit I bought 3 years ago
I used to think I didn't need a will because I was in my 20s and had nothing but student debt and a beat up Civic. Then my uncle passed in Calgary without one and it took his kids 8 months and like $4,000 in lawyer fees to sort everything out. That scared me straight so I grabbed a $40 will kit from the London Drugs on Kingsway and filled it out in an afternoon. Fast forward to last month when I bought my first house in Mill Woods and my real estate lawyer actually said my will was good enough to use as is. I just had to update the property part. Has anyone else had luck with those DIY kits or should I finally pay a real lawyer to go over everything?

Hell yeah, same story here! Mine held up fine at my lawyer's office too.

Yo same here man, I got one off Amazon for like $35 and filled it out while binge watching some show. When I finally bought my condo over in Garneau last year my lawyer checked it and said the only thing wrong was I wrote my neighbor's name as a witness and she wasn't even home that day haha. So I just had to re-sign it with two real witnesses and boom, good to go. Honestly for how much money lawyers charge to draft a basic will these things are a total steal. My cousin paid like $800 for his and it says pretty much the same stuff mine does. Just make sure you actually store it somewhere your family can find it and you're golden.
