Spent $600 on a paralegal for a landlord dispute and it actually paid off

My landlord tried to keep my whole damage deposit over some normal wear and tear on the carpet. I was about to just let it go but my buddy said talk to a paralegal first. Found one in Edmonton who charged $600 flat to write a demand letter and handle the emails. Landlord folded after two weeks and I got $1,200 back. Has anyone else here used a paralegal for small housing claims instead of going straight to court?

Makes you wonder how many people just hand over their deposit without knowing what they're actually entitled to, right? I'm glad it worked out for you. Landlords love to bully tenants into just accepting whatever they say. A paralegal is the perfect middle ground too, way cheaper than a lawyer and they handle all the nasty back and forth. I bet that landlord thought you'd just roll over and cry. It's wild that paying someone $600 to fight for your $1,200 actually feels like a steal in this economy.
