That notary who didn't check ID - caught it right before signing

Almost signed a statutory declaration with a notary who never asked for my ID. Just nodded and handed me the stamp. What do you do if a notary skips the basics like that?

Wow, I honestly used to think the whole ID check thing was just a formality nobody really cared about. I mean, I'd hand over my license but figured the notary was just going through the motions. Then I had a notary literally stamp a document without even glancing at my face and it kinda freaked me out. Made me realize those checks are there for a reason, even if it feels like an extra step at the time. Now I'm way more careful about who I pick for notarizing stuff.

Back in 2018 I had a notary do the exact same thing to me. I just politely refused to sign and told them they needed to verify my ID first. If they push back, walk away and find another notary - it's not worth the legal headache later if something goes wrong with the document.
