TIL Alberta has a law about minimum distance for beekeeping near roadsides

I was reading through the provincial apiary act last week after my neighbor mentioned something about his hives being too close to the highway. Turns out there's a specific rule about how far hives have to be from public roads, something like 30 meters unless there's a fence or hedge. I never would have guessed that would be in a law book. Did anyone else run into weird agricultural regulations when dealing with property disputes?

You would have never guessed that would be in a law book"? Honestly, I would've guessed we need way more rules like that. 30 meters is nothing if you're driving a combine down a gravel road and hit a cloud of bees at 40 km/h. If you're allergic, that's not a "property dispute", that's a trip to the hospital. And the fence exception makes total sense, bees fly at head height, a fence pushes them up. I get that people think it's overkill, but the guy who wrote that law probably got stung on the highway once and decided nobody else should deal with it.
