Why does nobody warn you about filing a police report for stolen packages in Edmonton

Had a package swiped off my porch near Whyte Ave last month, so I went to the EPS station on 82 Ave to file a report. They told me they don't actually investigate stolen packages unless it's over $5000 in value, which caught me off guard. So now I just send a claim to the shipper first instead of bothering with the cops. Has anyone else gotten the runaround from EPS on this?

Did you try filming the porch pirates with a trail cam?

Sort of related, but have you checked with your neighbors to see if they have a clear view from their windows? A lot of times people miss it because they only think about putting something on their own door, but sometimes a porch pirate's vehicle is parked just down the street and someone's kitchen window catches it all.
