Appreciation post: A weird thing at a trade show in Cleveland changed how I handle client meetings
Honestly, I was at a small business expo in Cleveland last fall, and this guy at a booth was trying to demo a software using a projector with a wobbly table. Every time he gestured, the whole image shook violently. Ngl, it was so distracting I couldn't focus on his pitch at all. I walked away realizing my own Zoom background with a flickering lamp was probably doing the same thing to my clients. Now I do a quick 'background check' on my camera feed before every call. Anyone else have a tiny thing that totally threw off a professional impression?

That "wobbly table" demo sounds like a cheap horror movie.

That "wobbly table" thing is so real... it's crazy how a tiny distraction can just wreck your focus. I'm curious about your "background check" now. Do you just look at your camera view for a second, or do you actually test things like audio echoes or that weird buzzing some mics pick up?

Have you ever caught a weird hum or buzz after the fact and had to scrap an entire recording? For me, background check means more than just a glance. I actually sit in frame for a solid 30 seconds and listen through headphones. I tap stuff on my desk, shift my chair, and even clap softly to see if the echo sounds right. If there's a bad angle or a glare, I'll shift the lights and test again. It's tedious, but I'd rather catch it before I start than have to re-record because the audio sounds like someone is blowing into a paper bag.
