Check name tags before you start talking. I got in the habit of glancing at the company name first, right after my own disastrous mix-up with a caterer. It takes two seconds and saves the awkwardness of pitching your seed round to the AV guy.

Ever ask for a manager and realize you've been talking to the owner the whole time? I started checking titles on LinkedIn before meetings. Saved me from explaining basic market terms to a director once, that would have been rough lol.
