I finally tried cold emailing after thinking it was just spam

For a year I was sure sending cold emails was a waste of time and would just annoy people. Last month I followed a template from a course, sent 50 specific emails to small design firms in Austin, and got 3 replies. One turned into a $2,000 project that just wrapped up. Has anyone else had a tactic they hated work out for them?

I read a case study about a guy who sent 200 cold LinkedIn messages with zero replies, then changed one sentence about the client's recent work and got a 15% response rate. The specificity you mentioned with Austin design firms seems like the same principle.

My first sales job I sent 500 generic emails and got maybe two replies. It was brutal. That specificity thing is the only real trick that works. You have to show you actually looked at their stuff.

Personalizing the subject line tripled my open rate.
