Had a chat with a dev who said schema markup is overhyped. Made me reconsider everything.
A backend engineer at a meetup told me most sites get by fine without schema and Google's AI is smart enough to parse content anyway. Been running tests on my blog for 2 weeks now with zero schema and traffic actually went up 8%. Anyone else feel like we overengineer this stuff?

Ha! Tell me about it. I remember when I was first learning SEO years ago, I spent a whole weekend adding schema to every single page on my site. Then I realized I had it all wrong and broke my breadcrumb trail for like two weeks before I noticed. Honestly, it sounds like you stumbled onto the same truth a lot of us learn the hard way - there's a difference between what the experts say you NEED and what actually helps. Did you notice any weird side effects when you stripped the schema, like any weird formatting stuff or just a cleaner feeling overall?

Yeah people way overcomplicate this stuff. Schema can help in specific cases like recipes or events but for a standard blog it's probably not moving the needle much. The basics of good content and solid site structure probably do way more than any structured data ever will.

Stripped all the fancy schema stuff off my personal site and just focused on writing better posts and cleaning up the navigation. Traffic actually went up after that, so yeah, the basics matter way more than people think.
