Showerthought: Marathon prep revealed why I'll never fully buy into the cold plunge craze
I keep seeing influencers and fitness blogs tout ice baths as a non-negotiable recovery tool, but my own training cycle convinced me they're overhyped for the average person. When I incorporated daily cold plunges after long runs, I actually experienced more muscle stiffness and disrupted sleep patterns, contrary to the promised benefits. As a concrete contractor, I'm no stranger to physical strain, and I found that a simple dynamic warm-up and consistent hydration worked far better for my joint health. The cold exposure did little to aid my actual recovery compared to prioritizing quality nutrition and adequate rest days. Pushing through the discomfort felt more like a trendy punishment than a scientifically sound practice for my body. Has anyone else found that some wellness trends just don't align with their personal physiology?
